Canadian tax help, even if you only need a T1.

You do not need a U.S. filing requirement to work with us. We prepare standalone Canadian personal returns and can coordinate Canadian and U.S. work when both are needed.

HOW WE CAN HELP

What we can handle for you.

Employment and retirement

Preparation for employment income, pensions, and other personal income sources.

Investments and rental income

Review of investment slips, capital transactions, and rental income and expense records.

Self-employment

Reporting for sole proprietors, with a review of business income and expenses.

Canadian and U.S. coordination

If you also have U.S. filing needs, we identify the additional work and agree on the scope together.

Leaving Canada and departure tax

Tax consultations for individuals planning to leave Canada, with a review of residency, potential departure tax issues, deemed dispositions, and available tax deferral options. We also prepare departure-year returns and applicable Forms T1161 (property listing), T1243 (deemed dispositions), and T1244 (election to defer departure tax payment).

T1135 foreign property reporting

Preparation and filing of Form T1135, Foreign Income Verification Statement. We review your foreign assets to determine which specified foreign property needs to be reported and the information required to complete the form.

We confirm the services, required documents, and fee before work begins.

ARRIVING IN CANADA

Understand your foreign assets before you move.

Planning to move to Canada? We offer arrival tax consultations to help determine when you become a Canadian tax resident and how assets you hold outside Canada may be treated once your Canadian residency begins.

We review foreign investments, real estate, pensions and retirement accounts, and interests in foreign companies or trusts. Our review considers Canadian tax treatment of income, future sales and withdrawals, potential foreign tax credits, and applicable foreign asset reporting, including T1135 requirements and any first-year exceptions.

We can also help identify which assets may receive a fair market value cost basis on arrival, which are subject to different rules, and what valuation records to keep. Your consultation is tailored to your assets, the country you are moving from, and your planned arrival date.

Getting your records ready.

Once we agree on your engagement, we will provide a document list tailored to your return. This may include prior returns and notices of assessment, tax slips, deduction receipts, and investment, rental, or business records. For arrival or departure consultations and foreign property reporting, we may also request your planned move date, residency details, and asset cost and valuation records.

Please use the inquiry form for general questions only. We will explain how to provide records after discussing your engagement.
